Marks' Double-Double Leads Women's Basketball to Sixth Straight Win

ANGOLA, Ind. – Olivia Marks delivered a monster performance to lead the Trine University women's basketball team to its sixth consecutive win on Wednesday, the Thunder pulled away in the second half for a 78-58 win over Albion College. Marks posted a 12-point, 15-rebound double-double. Trine (12-3, 6-0 MIAA) has won 24 consecutive MIAA games, three of which have come over the Britons (10-5, 3-3 MIAA).
 
Four others joined Marks scoring in double figures, Madison Wagner led Trine with 14, Ally Capouch had 13, Annika Southworth scored 12 and Zoe Willems added 11.
 
A pair of Hailey Cole layups gave Trine an 8-7 lead and established the Thunder offense that went on a 9-0 run to end the first quarter. Annika Southworth started the run in the paint with a layup. Sara Parkison found Ally Capouch for a three from the top of the key and Gracey Metz ended the run with a layup in transition.
 
Albion punched back in the second quarter eventually cutting the lead to two points. Zoe Willems stretched the lead to 11 with a pair of three point plays, the first coming at the free throw line and the next from beyond the arc. Albion would trim the advantage to two with 3:24 to play, but Trine scored the final six to take a 36-28 lead into the half.
 
The lead grew to 11 in the third quarter with a fast start from the hosts. Capouch got hot from downtown and buried a pair of threes and then hit a jumper in the lane. Marks answered a Briton basket with a longball and Trine led 47-36. Albion cut the lead to five as the clock rolled under three minutes to play, Willems answered with the next five points to reestablish the double digit advantage. Trine led 57-43 headed to the fourth quarter when Wagner and Marks closed out the 9-0 run in the final minute.
 
Albion would cut the lead to 13 with just over five minutes remaining. Madison Wagner, who had been quiet offensively, proceeded to bury three triples on consecutive possessions and buried the Britons under a 22 point lead. The MIAA Player of the Week got help from Parkison on the first and Southworth on the other two to put the game in hand.
 
Trine travels to Adrian College on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. tipoff in the mitten.
