In February 2002, with the help of former Emory Sports Information Director John Arenberg, we released our first all-region awards to honor the top players in each of Division III's eight regions. We added regional awards for Player and Coach of the Year in 2005-06 and then added regional Rookie of the Year honors two seasons later. Since 2002, we've honored thousands of players across hundreds of teams and now we're providing you with a database to search and sort those recipients.
Note: This has been updated through the end of the 2025-26 season
Download archive
The archive is a large Excel spreadsheet that you can download, sort and analyze at will. The default view lists selections in reverse chronological order but, using Excel's sort feature, you can organize them anyway you want. If you're not comfortable with Excel and accidentally mess something up, no worries -- just download the file and try again.
The structure for these awards has been mostly consistent since our first release more than 20 years ago.
Players are nominated by their schools' Sports Information Directors (SIDs). A panel of SIDs and media members cast ballots to select the top players in their region, and D3hoops staff tally the votes and make adjustments to ensure positional balance.
Regions may have two, three or even four all-region teams depending on the number of schools competing in that region, and that number changes with conference reallignment.
There have been other changes over the two-plus decades we've released these awards.
In 2021-22, the NCAA switched from eight geographically titled regions to the current 10-region numerically-titled structure. You'll find honorees from both eras in this database, as well as separate sections with the Player, Rookie and Coach of the Year honorees.
In the first couple years, we named some players as Honorable Mention all-region selections if they had enough votes to qualify but there were already enough players selected at that position to fill out two or three teams. If you search through the database, you'll notice the shift from very forward-heavy all-region teams to guard-oriented teams, especially as more players are designated guards, wings or guard/forwards in modern college basketball. And you'll find some schools with honorees that have since left NCAA Division III.
Here are some historical notes.
