Wittenberg used a 14-1 run in the second half to get back in the game but it wasn't enough as No. 2 Wooster held off the No. 9 Tigers 69-62.
Scott Purcell led Wooster (14-1, 8-0 NCAC) with 14 points, while Doug Thorpe and Xavier Brown added 12 among five scorers in double figures in the win. Scott Masin had a game-high 17 points for Wittenberg.
The key stretch may have been the final 11:17 of the first half. With Wittenberg (12-3, 6-2) having gained a 13-8 lead, the Scots called a timeout at that point and regrouped, outscoring the Tigers 26-6 for a 34-19 halftime advantage.
No. 14 Wesley edged No. 16 St. Mary's (Md.) 75-72 for the Wolverines' first road win vs. the Seahawks since the 1997-98 season. With the score tied at 71 with 50 seconds left, Eric Selby used a screen and found David Langan alone for an easy layup with 35 ticks remaining to put Wesley back on top by two. Wesley hit one of two foul shots to go up by three and a long Seahawks 3-pointer fell short.
Brad Bolen scored 25 and had eight assists and David Fernandez added 22 points as No. 15 Messiah bounced back from Wednesday's loss to Stevenson to defeat Arcadia 78-70. The Falcons shot 20-for-22 from the foul line.
Justin Pedley sank a pair of free throws with two seconds left that completed a 27-point afternoon and clinch a thrilling 55-51 victory for MIT over Springfield. The Engineers improve to 11-3, 3-1 in the NEWMAC. WPI remained unbeaten in the NEWMAC and improved to 13-1 overall as Sam Longwell and Domenick Mastascusa combined for 32 points in a 64-50 win vs. Emerson. The Engineers won their 11th consecutive game.
Duncan Robinson led all scorers with 27 points on 9-for-9 shooting from the field and 6-for-6 from the line as No. 10 Williams defeated Colby 69-62.
No. 12 St. Norbert won its 11th consecutive game, defeating Illinois College 76-53. The Green Knights lead the rest of the Midwest Conference by three games in the race to host the conference tournament. No. 22 Ohio Wesleyan brought an end to DePauw's six-game winning streak, defeating the Tigers 75-62 behind 18 points from Seth Clark.
Brandon Caruthers scored 23 points to help Brockport to its 10th consecutive victory, 77-65 at Cortland. Brockport is 11-1, 5-0 in the SUNYAC. Carthage held on for a 76-68 win at Millikin to remain in a first-place tie in the CCIW with Illinois Wesleyan and Augustana. Illinois Wesleyan was a 78-71 winner over Wheaton (Ill.).
Delaware Valley hit 16 3-pointers but only nine other field goals in their loss to DeSales. The Bulldogs had 30 points from the foul line in winning 84-75. After dropping two league games at home, in overtime by a combined total of four, Scranton left little to chance against Goucher. The Royals bolted out to a 19-point halftime lead and never lifted their foot off the gas en route to a 90-76 victory behind 29 points from Brendan Boken.
Jeff Harris came off the bench to pour in 29 points and Drew Binversie added 21 as Marian won for the 11th time in 12 games, defeating Benedictine 81-75. The Eagles led by 10 in the first half and the Sabres didn't take the lead for good until 1:48 remained in the game.
Johns Hopkins blocked a pair of shots in the final four seconds to secure a 67-66 win at Ursinus. Ursinus fell to 2-13, 0-8 in the Centennial Conference. Dylan Farinet scored a school-record 42 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and dished out five assists to lead No. 20 Mary Washington to an 88-47 win over Penn State-Harrisburg.
Chas Cross led the way with a game-high 33 points, including UW-Platteville's last four, but the Pioneers needed to survive a 3-point attempt at the buzzer in order to beat UW-La Crosse 80-79.
Franciscan won for the third time this season, improving to 3-10 with a 71-70 win vs. Medaille. The Barons snapped a 52-game losing streak earlier this season.
