PrestoSports, D3hoops.com and Ustream have partnered to provide
live coverage of the Capital Athletic Conference men’s
basketball championship game between St. Mary’s (Md.) and
Wesley at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26.
In a landmark broadcast for Division III athletics, fans will be able to watch a conference championship game and view live stats all in the same window. PrestoSports has developed support for its clients’ Ustream channels within PrimeTime, the PrestoSports live stats viewer, making PrimeTime the first live stats viewer to interface with a video stream.
D3hoops.com, a PrestoSports client, will be providing video of the game on its Ustream channel. Audio will be provided by Hoopsville, the official radio broadcast of D3hoops.com. And the two mediums will come together via PrimeTime.
“We’re thankful to D3hoops.com and Hoopsville for providing their expert services for our championship game, and we’re excited about providing our fans this unique opportunity,” CAC Commissioner Tom Byrnes said. “PrestoSports is constantly providing the latest website technology to Division III and it is no surprise that they would come out with such a groundbreaking feature.”
“St. Mary's and the Capital Athletic Conference have been very supportive of our broadcast efforts in the past and make natural partners for this project around,” said D3hoops.com executive editor Pat Coleman. “It always takes a little bit of patience to pull together a multi-faceted project such as this one and we're excited to see the outcome.”
St. Mary's and Wesley, the top two teams in the regular season and both ranked among the top teams in the Middle Atlantic Region, will meet in the CAC Men's Basketball Championship Game for the second consecutive year.
Regular-season CAC champion St. Mary's (21-5), the No. 2-ranked team in the region, has won two of the last three CAC titles and three crowns in the 20-year history of the conference.
Second-seeded Wesley (17-9), the ninth-ranked team in the region, will make its third-straight CAC championship game appearance. Wesley won the 2009 championship (64-51 vs. Marymount) and lost last year's title contest to SMC (80-76).
The Seahawks and Wolverines split the regular-season series, each winning at home. Wesley posted a 95-80 victory in Dover on Jan. 17 while St. Mary's gained an 83-71 decision at its Athletic & Recreation Center, the site of Saturday's championship game (2 p.m.), on Feb. 12.
Streaming of the Division I men's basketball championship, March Madness On Demand, is one of the most-watched online events. Fans of Division III now have the opportunity to enjoy the most complete in-game sports experience available throughout conference play and into the NCAA tournament.
"As a cost-effective way of providing fans video coverage, more and more Division III institutions have turned to Ustream,” said Robb Modica, Director of Site Development at PrestoSports. “It seemed natural for PrestoSports to develop integration with such a widely-used broadcast platform.”
A Rockville, Md., based company, PrestoSports is a leading provider of athletic content management software to colleges and conference offices used for designing, building and maintaining official athletic websites.
