Blakney gets to 2,000

Farmingdale State senior guard Kimberly Blakney became the school's first 2,000-point scorer Thursday night, as she pulled down an offensive rebound and went back up for a jumper to score 2,000 and 2,001 in the second half of a 72-68 win against SUNY-Purchase. The win keeps the Rams undefeated at 23-0.

Blakney, a D3hoops.com preseason All-American, finished with 31 points, 18 rebounds, seven steals and two blocks en route to the milestone. She reached 1,500 points earlier this season.

&&g-boxr&&Last year, Blakney led Division III in scoring with an average of 24.2 per game. This season, she's improved on that to the tune of 26.1 points per contest and also averages a career-high 12.3 rebounds.

Elsewhere on Thursday night, freshman point guard Cory Lemons hit a 15-foot jumper to lift Cabrini past Centenary 79-77 and preserve their unbeaten home mark. Dan Robinson, a midseason transfer from D-II East Stroudsburg added 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench. In other women's action, Kelli McIntyre scored 17 of her game-high 21 in the second half to lift Alvernia to a 63-60 upset of No. 16 Messiah. Mary Hardin-Baylor won its 16th consecutive game and clinched the West top seed in the American Southwest Conference tournament with a 67-53 win at Sul Ross State.
