Choctaws make an exhibition of Alcorn

Senior guard Michael Penson scored 16 points, including 10 in a row in the final two minutes to give Mississippi College the lead and senior forward Richard Worthy hit two free throws with 4.7 seconds remaining to seal the win for the Choctaws, 85-81 in an exhibition win Monday night at D-I Alcorn State.

&&b-boxl&&It's the second exhibition win in as many days for a D-III men's team against a Division I opponent, following UW-Platteville's defeat of Bradley on Sunday. On Nov. 1, Westminster (Mo.) beat SIU-Edwardsville, a school in the first year of a four-year transition from Division II to Division I.

The Braves held a 40-39 halftime lead and extended the advantage to six with about 10 minutes remaining. The Choctaws used a 58.1% shooting percentage in the second half to come back and pull out the win.

Junior Cordero Bowen (13 points), Worthy (11), senior Clarence Jeffrey (10) and junior Chazz Hawkins (10) also scored in double figures for the Choctaws. Junior Christian Marshall scored nine points, four of them in the final 30 seconds.

Troy Jackson led the way for Alcorn State with 29 points on 11-for-21 shooting from the floor.

The Choctaws finished the night shooting 47.7% from the floor, including 9-for-22 from three-point range.
