Andrew Olson became just the eighth player in Division III men's basketball history to record 700 career assists when he fed three Amherst baskets in a 69-58 NESCAC win Saturday afternoon against Trinity (Conn.).
With 16 minutes to play in the second half, Olson made a no-look behind-the-back bounce pass to fellow senior Kevin Hopkins, who went in untouched for a two-handed dunk to give Amherst a 38-33 lead.
Olson is followed close behind by DeSales point guard Eddie Ohlson, who had 672 career assists entering the week. Olson has a shot at catching Christopher Newport's Andre Bolton (1993-96) at 737 assists for seventh place all-time, as well as D3hoops.com All-American Mike McGarvey, who had 754 for Ursinus from 2003-06.
The record is held by Ramapo's Tennyson Whitted, who was credited with 917 assists in 108 games from 2000-03.
