UNE hires Wabash assistant

University of New England athletic director Kim Allen announced that Jason Mulligan has been hired as men's basketball coach. Mulligan replaces Jon Hayes, who resigned in June after three seasons at the helm for the Nor'easters.

Mulligan has been an assistant coach at Wabash for six seasons under Mac Petty, who has won 474 games in his 31 seasons, making him one of the winningest active head coaches in Division III. While at Wabash, Mulligan played a significant role in the overall operations of the men's basketball program including recruiting coordinator, defensive coach, scouting, strength and conditioning, and summer camps.

A 2000 graduate of Olivet Nazarene with a bachelor's degree in speech communication, he was a four-year member of the basketball team -- a program that made four consecutive appearances at the NAIA Division I national tournament. Mulligan went on to attain a master's degree in education from Nova Southeastern in 2004.

Allen feels Mulligan is ready to take over the Nor'easters' basketball program. "We were all extremely impressed with Jason's preparation, knowledge and recruitment plan." commented Allen. "He knows what it takes to win, as has had an outstanding mentor at Wabash. This is a key juncture for our men's basketball program, and we feel Jason is well-suited to lead us to future success."
