Scheele writes place in history

Edgewood's Megan Scheele became just the ninth woman to reach 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds, and she reached them in the same game Thursday night as the Eagles defeated Maranatha 65-47.

&&g-boxl&&Scheele needed eight points to reach 2,000, and got to the milestone after a slow start with a free throw with 17:41 remaining in the second half. She hit her last four field goals after breaking the 2,000 barrier and finished with 21 points on 7-for-13 shooting.

She entered the game with 988 career rebounds and got her 12th of the night on the offensive glass with 7:44 remaining. She finished the night with 13 rebounds. The 2,000-point, 1,000-rebound double has been accomplished seven times previously in Division III women's basketball, most recently by McMurry's Tarra Richardson. It's not known if any of the previous eight reached both milestones in the same night. Thursday's women's scores.

Elsewhere on Thursday night, April Sparkman hit a layup with 1.2 seconds left for her second game-winner of the month, leading No. 10 York (Pa.) to a 59-57 win at McDaniel. It's York's 21st consecutive win.

In men's action, No. 12 Elms continues to blow through the first-year NECC, with 14 Blazers scoring in a 95-72 defeat of Daniel Webster. It's Elms' 10th consecutive win. Thursday's men's scores.
