Belles of the ball

With less than 10 minutes to play and trailing No. 3 Hope by 13, St. Marys (Ind.) had no reason to believe this game would end any differently than the previous match-ups between MIAA foes. But the Belles mounted a furious comeback and turned a double-digit deficit into a seven-point victory ending Hopes 40-game regular season win streak, 91-84.

Nicole Beier scored 25 points in 28 minutes off the bench and Patsy Mahoney scored seven of her 18 points in the final two minutes. The victory is the first for St. Marys (Ind.) since joining the MIAA in 1999. It is Hopes first regular season loss since February 10, 2007.

No. 19 George Fox stayed undefeated and picked up a big road victory over No. 23 Whitman 62-51. No. 2 Illinois Wesleyan stayed unbeaten with a narrow 64-62 win over St. Francis (Ill.) and No. 17 NYU held off St. Elizabeth 65-53 to improve to 9-0. More womens scores from Saturday.

&&g-boxl&&Scranton added to No. 9 Keans recent troubles by rolling past the Cougars 77-52. Megan Kopecki reached a new high with 23 points as the Lady Royals handed Kean its third loss in five games. All-American guard Melissa Beyruti remains sidelined for Kean with an injury.

Bowdoin shot 25 percent from the field (14 for 56) but scored enough to get by Hamilton 49-44. Tiffany Youel scored 28 points for Muskingum who topped Wilmington 66-60. The Muskies remain one game behind Capital who stands at 4-0 in the OAC after beating Marietta 81-55.
